GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: The Texas defense is allowing 416 yards in Big 12 play, which makes the Longhorns a middle-of-the-pack unit the Jayhawks could attack on the ground and possibly open some aerial lanes for QB Peyton Bender. Using RB Pooka Williams in multiple dimensions as a rusher, receiver and return man will again give the Jayhawks their best chance at an upset if he gets his touches. DE Charles Omenihu leads Big 12 defenders in conference play with six sacks. CB Kris Boyd ranks second in Big 12 games in passes defended (10).

DRAFT SLANT

–RB Pooka Williams has a promising college future since he has dazzled as the Big 12 leader in all-purpose yardage with 1,545 yards. He showcased his talents with an impressive prime-time performance against Oklahoma, the one Big 12 team with a shot still in the College Football Playoff chase. Williams is not going to turn pro yet, but it should be fun watching him progress under new Kansas coach Les Miles and will be a veteran who can help immensely with rebuilding efforts.

ROSTER REPORT

–RB Dom Williams was dinged in the first half of the loss at Oklahoma but finished with 32 yards on four carries as part of a 348-yard rushing performance by the Jayhawks.

–QB Carter Stanley played a backup role in spots during the Oklahoma defeat, another indication QB Miles Kendrick will redshirt after playing in the first four games as a sub.
