PLAYERS TO WATCH

–CB Hasan Defense recorded an interception and a fumble recovery in the loss at Texas Tech, giving him four takeaways in the last two games after he snagged two picks against West Virginia on Oct. 6. Defense had been used as a nickel back before injuries elevated him into a starting role. Like several Kansas defenders, he is adept at breaking on balls and has a nose for takeaways.

–LB Joe Dineen recorded two tackles for loss against Texas Tech to move into a tie for first all-time at Kansas alongside Willie Pless. Dineen boosted his career total to 41. Pless is the Jayhawks’ all-time leading tackler and enshrined in the CFL Hall of Fame.

–WR Steven Sims snagged a 31-yard touchdown pass among his two grabs for 38 yards against Texas Tech. Sims moved into a tie for second in both career receiving yardage (2,309) and receiving touchdowns (18). Kerry Meier is the former standout Sims tied in both categories.

–WR Daylon Charlot, who has played sparingly since transferring from Alabama and gaining eligibility at Kansas last season, had four receptions for 67 yards against Texas Tech. One of his grabs was an amazing one-handed catch along the boundary.

SERIES HISTORY: TCU leads Kansas 22-8-4. The Horned Frogs have won six straight in a rivalry that was once a regular early-season game for both teams long before they were Big 12 rivals. The Jayhawks managed just 21 total yards in a 43-0 loss at TCU last season. The Horned Frogs won the previous three matchups by just 11 points collectively.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “We had a firm understanding of what we were doing. I think everybody felt comfortable. They were engaged the entire time. It was just a matter of connecting on some of those throws early in the game (at Texas Tech) that were contested, heavy box stuff that we see on tape. We’ve just got to put the ball on that (receiver), give him the chance, because those turn into big plays.” — Kansas coach David Beaty.
