Three Oklahoma State student-athletes tested positive for the coronavirus when returning to campus ahead of the resumption of voluntary workouts.
Senior associate athletic director Kevin Klintworth made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter, adding that none of the infected student-athletes was experiencing symptoms.
One of the three apparently was rising senior linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga, who tweeted Tuesday that he tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a protest in Tulsa last weekend.
Klintworth wrote, “For the record: @OSUAthletics has tested over 150 staff/admins/student-athletes with 3 asymptomatic positives. All by SAs. Positives were expected and the plan for that scenario has been activated. We will be as forthcoming as possible on the covid issues. #okstate”
The university on Tuesday laid out its plan for testing all players and staffers as they come back to the school, as restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic are lifted.
ESPN reported Tuesday that Ogbongbemiga faces a quarantine period at isolated on-campus housing ahead of a Friday retest. Oklahoma State also reportedly will conduct contact tracing to find out those who might have been exposed to the virus.
The Cowboys intend to start voluntary training on June 15, the first day they are permitted to do so under Big 12 rules.
Ogbongbemiga, a Canadian who was Oklahoma State’s defensive MVP last season, was selected second-team All-Big 12 after finishing sixth in the Big 12 with 100 tackles and fifth with 15.5 tackles for loss.
