Five-star quarterback prospect Brock Vandagriff withdrew his commitment to Oklahoma and reopened his recruitment on Wednesday.

Vandagriff is the top-ranked pro-style quarterback and the No. 8 overall player in the Class of 2021, per the 247Sports composite.

The Georgia native thanked Sooners coach Lincoln Riley in a Twitter post Wednesday, explaining he had changed his mind about playing college football “so far away from home.”

“I will be decommitting and opening my recruitment back up. No interviews please,” he posted. “Please respect my decision. Thank you.”

Vandagriff committed to Oklahoma in June over offers from Alabama, LSU, Florida and Georgia, among others.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder plays at Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart, Ga., which is about 15 miles from Georgia’s campus in Athens.

Homesickness aside, Vandagriff would also have faced stiff quarterback competition in Norman. The Sooners are losing 2019 Heisman Trophy runner-up Jalen Hurts, but they have 2019 five-star recruit Spencer Rattler and former four-star Tanner Mordecai on the roster.
