The NCAA approved Ohio State transfer Matthew Baldwin’s appeal for immediate eligibility at TCU after initially denying the quarterback’s request.

Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson made the announcement after Saturday night’s season-opening 39-7 victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

A four-star recruit in the Class of 2018 from Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, Baldwin redshirted last season in Columbus.

He completed 20 of 36 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Ohio State spring game this April before opting to transfer.

The NCAA reportedly turned down his eligibility waiver request, but the school filed an appeal.

Baldwin will be eligible when TCU returns to action on Sept. 14 at Purdue, but he could have a tough time finding the field.

The Horned Frogs used two quarterbacks in the opener. Kansas State graduate transfer Alex Delton started and completed 10 of 22 passes for 119 yards while rushing seven times for 67 yards. Freshman Max Duggan led all three of TCU’s touchdown drives and finished 16-of-23 passing for 165 yards.
