TCU expects injured freshman quarterback Max Duggan to play against 12th-ranked and unbeaten Baylor on Saturday, ESPN reported Friday, citing a source.

The Horned Frogs (4-4) are dealing with a quarterback dilemma since both Duggan and reserve Mike Collins sustained injuries in a defeat last week at Oklahoma State.

Collins, a junior who has an injury to his midsection, is not expected to play against Baylor (8-0), so that likely means walk-on freshman Matthew Downing will be the backup.

Duggan, who injured a finger on his throwing hand, leads TCU with 1,405 passing yards and 12 touchdowns while starting the past six games. He is third on the team in two rushing categories — yards (319) and touchdowns (four).

Collins has completed 3 of 5 passes for 49 yards, and has rushed for 9 yards and a touchdown on two carries while appearing in two games this season.

The Horned Frogs have already lost fifth-year graduate transfer Alex Delton, the season-opening starter who left the program Tuesday.

Delton, a team captain who transferred to TCU after four years at Kansas State, started the first two games and completed 27 of 50 passes for 318 yards and one interception while also rushing for 100 yards on 17 carries.

Delton’s departure comes less than a week after redshirt freshman quarterback Justin Rogers announced he was transferring.
