Former Ohio State quarterback Matthew Baldwin must sit out the 2019 season at TCU after the NCAA denied his request for immediate eligibility.

Multiple outlets reported the NCAA’s decision Thursday, noting that TCU planned to file an appeal.

A four-star recruit in the Class of 2018 from Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, Baldwin redshirted last season.

He completed 20 of 36 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Ohio State spring game in April before opting to transfer.

Even if his waiver request had been granted, Baldwin faced an uphill battle for playing time with the Horned Frogs this season.

Not only is he recovering from surgery for an undisclosed injury, his TCU competition includes Kansas State graduate transfer Alex Delton, junior Mike Collins, redshirt freshman Justin Rogers and true freshman Max Duggan.
