TCU junior defensive tackle Ross Blacklock declared for the NFL draft on Friday, announcing his decision on social media.

Among the many people he thanked were Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson and defensive line coach Zarnell Fitch.

“A wise man once told me, “follow your heart, and you’ll never go wrong,” Blacklock wrote. “Playing in the NFL has always been a dream of mine since I was 5 years old.”

A first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2019, Blacklock totaled 40 tackles (nine for loss) and 3.5 sacks in 12 games this season. He follows TCU wide receiver Jalen Reagor in deciding to opt for the draft over playing his senior season with the Horned Frogs, who compiled a 5-7 record in 2019, and finished tied for seventh in the Big 12 standings at 3-6.

Blacklock started all 12 games in 2017 as a redshirt freshman, collecting 27 tackles (6.5 for loss) and 2.0 sacks en route to sharing Big 12 defensive freshman of the year honors with Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray.

The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder also garnered freshman All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America.

His sophomore season was wiped out by an Achilles injury during preseason practice.
