One day after being arrested for assault, TCU wide receiver KaVontae Turpin was dismissed from the team.

Head coach Gary Patterson said Turpin has been kicked off the squad, the Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday, although Patterson also said he had not yet informed Turpin of the decision.

Turpin was second on the team in receptions (29), receiving yards (410) and receiving touchdowns (three). But he was even more important as a kick returner. He returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns this season, and his punt-return average of 19.4 yards per attempt is tied for the FBS lead.

Turpin was arrested Sunday for assault with bodily harm of a family member. Police allege that Turpin dragged his girlfriend across a parking lot and slammed her to the ground at an apartment complex in Fort Worth on Saturday night.

Turpin also had been arrested in March for battery of a household member.

He was suspended by TCU on Monday, leading to the dismissal on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, it was announced that TCU starting quarterback Shawn Robinson will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

The Horned Frogs (3-4, 1-3 Big 12) have lost two straight and play a road game against last-place Kansas on Saturday.
