GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: The TCU defense against Oklahoma uber-talented offensive attack. The Sooners, keyed by quarterback Kyler Murray, can run up and down the field on any one, and the Horned Frogs can’t afford to get into a shootout with OU. TCU was successful stopping Texas Tech’s potent offensive attack last week, but was helped by the fact the Red Raiders’ had to use a backup quarterback. The key to stopping OU is in stopping Murray, which is much easier said than done.

DRAFT SLANT

–DE Ben Banogu is the easy pick to be the Horned Frogs’ first player taken in the 2019 draft. He’s a speed rusher off the edge and will be looking to build on his junior season in which he had 8.5 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss. Banogu could’ve tested the draft waters after last season, but opted to return. A big season could make him a Day 2 prospect and have him in line for even more honors than he earned after last season. He had a season-high eight tackles, including two sacks, in the loss to Texas Tech; Banogu now has 19 stops, a forced fumble that led to a TD return, a fumble return for score, three sacks and four quarterback hurries for the season.

ROSTER REPORT:

–TCU limited Texas Tech, the nation’s leader in total offense entering the game at 591.4 yards per game, to 353 yards. The Red Raiders were also tied for seventh in scoring in the FBS at 48.4 points per game and were held to 17 points.

–The Horned Frogs have held all six opponents in 2018 below their season averages in scoring and total offense.

–TCU fell to 111-5 under head coach Gary Patterson when allowing 17 points or less. The loss snapped TCU’s eight-game home winning streak.

–WR KaVontae Turpin’s six receptions moved him ahead of John Washington (135, 1993-96) into eighth place on TCU’s career list with 140. Turpin’s 120 yards receiving gave him his first 100-yard game of the season and fourth of his career. It was the first 100-yard receiving game by a Horned Frog in 2018.

–DE Ben Banogu had two sacks against Texas Tech and now has 21 tackles for loss in 20 career games at TCU and 35 in his collegiate career. He had 14 tackles for loss for ULM in 2015.

–RB Kenedy Snell, a sophomore, will transfer, he announced on Monday. Snell appeared in just one game this season, rushing for 23 yards on seven carries against Southern in the season opener. Since he’s played in four or fewer games, he is eligible to “redshirt” this season. Snell played in nine games as a freshman last season, rushing for 88 yards and one TD on 25 carries. He also had five catches for 93 yards and two TDs.
