Texas Tech sophomore quarterback Alan Bowman has decided to redshirt this season and save a year of eligibility.

Bowman suffered an injury to his left shoulder in mid-September and was recently cleared to play. He played in three games prior to the injury.

Red Raiders coach Matt Wells said he spoke to Bowman and his parents on Sunday night while Bowman was reaching the decision.

“He’s been cleared to play,” Wells told reporters. “It’s our intent, right now, to redshirt him — as well as his intent. I certainly respect that and agree with that. That’s kind of where we sit with Alan.”

Bowman passed for 1,020 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions before suffering the shoulder injury in a game against Arizona.

Junior Jett Duffey replaced Bowman and has passed for 1,774 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions.
