Texas Tech starting quarterback Alan Bowman will miss several weeks because of a shoulder injury sustained Saturday night in a loss at Arizona, the school announced.

Bowman, a sophomore, was tended to on the sideline early in the second half after Wildcats linebacker Tony Fields II drove him into the turf onto his left shoulder after he released a pass. Bowman then went into the locker room but returned in time for Texas Tech’s next series and finished the game.

Bowman completed 30 of 55 passes for 311 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions, in the Red Raiders’ 28-14 loss. He is fourth nationally with 1,024 passing yards this season.

Bowman has 10 career starts after taking over the job as a true freshman last season.

Texas Tech listed co-backups last week — junior Jett Duffey and senior Jackson Tyner, a grad transfer from Rice. Duffey, a dual threat, completed 104 of 154 passes for 1,221 yards with eight touchdowns and six interceptions last season while leading the team with 369 rushing yards.

Texas Tech (2-1) next plays at No. 5 Oklahoma on Sept. 28.
