After a good start to the 2019 season, West Virginia had lost five consecutive games and trailed, 20-14, at Kansas State as the fourth quarter started on Saturday. The Mountaineers had not scored more than 17 points in any of its last four games, but that was about to change.

Junior quarterback Jarret Doege, a transfer from Bowling Green making his first start for West Virginia, took advantage of blown coverage and hit wide receiver Bryce Wheaton on a 50-yard catch-and-run to give the Mountaineers a 24-20 lead, which held up as the final score.

The win left West Virginia (4-6) still with hope to qualify for a postseason bowl bid.

Wheaton’s long scoring reception, which proved to be the game-winner, is this week’s U.S. Farm Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”

For the game, Doege completed 20 of 30 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns.

Wheaton, a freshman from North Carolina, had just one reception in the game … but it was a big one!

Remember … for the tailgate tent or the pre-game party, U. S. Farm-Raised Catfish is always “the winning catch.”
