Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will likely be a game-time decision when the Hoosiers host Connecticut on Saturday, head coach Tom Allen said Monday.

Penix was also listed as a game-time decision for Indiana’s game against Ohio State last Saturday, and he was eventually ruled out with an undisclosed injury.

“I don’t foresee it, hopefully, not being a day-to-day thing the rest of the season, but at the same time, for this Saturday’s game, we definitely aren’t going to know for several more days,” Allen told reporters Monday. “He probably will eventually be a game-time decision with him, but I don’t expect that to keep being the case every single week.”

Penix was named Indiana’s starting quarterback at the beginning of the season and led the team to victories over Ball State and Eastern Illinois. Peyton Ramsey started in Penix’s place last Saturday as the Hoosiers were defeated 51-10 by No. 5 Ohio State.

Ramsey would start for Indiana (2-1) in the event that Penix is unable to play this week.

Ramsey completed 19 of 33 passes for 162 yards with one interception against Ohio State. Ramsey has completed 32 of 47 pass attempts for 388 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Penix is 38 of 60 passing for 523 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions this season.
