GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: Penn State QB Trace McSorley came into the season as a Heisman Trophy candidate, but his numbers haven’t lived up to the billing. He hasn’t thrown for 300 yards in a game this season and is averaging only 181.4 yards in conference play. He was subpar last week against Rutgers and the Scarlet Knights hung around before falling 20-7. Can the Terrapins, fifth in the Big Ten allowing 202 passing yards per game, continue McSorley’s middlin’ peformances? Dwayne Haskins threw for 405 yards and two touchdowns and ran for three more last week, changing the game with his play-making ability. The Terrapins lead the nation with 18 interceptions and have had at least one in every game so far, including RaVon Davis’ 37-yard Pick Six against Ohio State. Davis had a rough day overall, though, with a couple of pass interference penalties and a couple of long plays allowed.

DRAFT SLANT:

–Senior safety Darnell Savage, Jr., had nine tackles against Ohio State, including getting in on a tackle for loss. He has 5.5 TFLs on the season, second on the team, and has an interception and a pass breakup. He is most known for his hard-hitting ways in the secondary and in run support, things which should get him in an NFL camp this summer. An honorable mention all-conference selection last year, Savage has put together another solid season, and he plays bigger than his 5-foot-11, 200-pound frame.

ROSTER REPORT

–RB Ty Johnson did not play on Senior Day against Ohio State. He has missed two of the last three games and played sparingly at Indiana after injuring his calf against Illinois. Canada said he was hopeful Johnson would return this week. If Johnson is finished this year, he will still rank as only the fourth Terrapin ever over 4,000 all-purpose yards.

–RG Terrance Davis missed his second straight game with an undisclosed injury. Davis had started six games this season, and Canada said he had a chance to return this week, as well.

–S Antwaine Richardson, who sat out against Indiana, returned to record a career-high 11 tackles against the Buckeyes.
