Starting punter Jake Hartbarger and wide receiver Brandon Sowards will be back at Michigan State in 2019 after the NCAA granted them a sixth year of eligibility, the school announced Thursday.

Hartbarger injured his right leg against Arizona State on Sept. 8 and missed the rest of the 2018 season. Michigan State had to rely on four starting punters.

He entered last season as a Ray Guy Award candidate, having averaged 42.1 yards per punt during his career.

Sowards started four games last season, making 18 catches for 201 yards. He missed the 2017 season because of a torn knee ligament, in between two years (2016 and 2018) when he led the team in punt returns.
