Matt Schembechler, the son of Michigan football coaching legend Bo Schembechler, is set to share details of his abuse at the hands of former Michigan team doctor Robert E. Anderson.

According to a press release, Matt Schembechler will be joined by two former Michigan players at a press conference Thursday to talk about their experiences and his father’s “failure to protect him and other athletes.”

Former wide receiver Gilvanni Johnson and offensive lineman Daniel Kwiatkowski will also allege that they were assaulted by Anderson during physicals. Kwiatkowski says he went to Schembechler, was told to “toughen up,” and then was subsequently assaulted by Anderson multiple times more. Johnson likewise reports subsequent abuses following his initial complaint.

A 240-page report commissioned by the university was released last month, detailing that Anderson had sexually abused hundreds of Michigan athletes and other students over the course of 37 years.

After the report’s release, current head coach Jim Harbaugh came to the defense of Bo Schembechler, whom he played under in the mid-1980s.

“There’s nothing that ever was swept under the rug or ignored,” Harbaugh said. “He addressed everything in a timely fashion. That’s the Bo Schembechler that I knew.”
