Michigan redshirt sophomore Andrew Stueber, battling for the starting right tackle job, is sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury, according to multiple reports.

Stueber was hurt in Tuesday’s practice, according to 97.1 FM in Detroit, which first reported the news.

Stueber started the final two games of last season — against Ohio State and in the Peach Bowl loss to Florida — and has been competing with redshirt freshman Jalen Mayfield at right tackle through spring and fall camps. Stueber was spotted on crutches Wednesday.

Michigan has four returning starters on the offensive line, and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis told reporters this week that he felt like he had “six starters up front,” counting the two right tackles.

The Wolverines ranked seventh in the preseason coaches poll released Aug. 1. They open the season at home on Aug. 31 against Middle Tennessee.
