Brandon Peters, once considered the heir apparent at quarterback for Michigan, entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Michigan spokesman Dave Ablauf confirmed Peters’ decision Saturday in a text message to mlive.com.
Peters started four games in 2017, and despite a pass-completion rate of 52.8 percent, he seemed on track to assume the starting job for the Wolverines. That was until Shea Patterson transferred from Mississippi and claimed the spot for 2018.
From Avon, Ind., the 6-foot-5 Peters entered Michigan as a four-star prospect and the No. 6-ranked pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2016, per the 247Sports composite. He redshirted that season and is on track to graduate this summer.
As a graduate transfer, he will be allowed to play immediately this fall and will have two years of eligibility left.
According to mlive.com, Peters had fallen to the bottom of the quarterback depth chart. Patterson is the presumed starter entering summer camp, followed by redshirt sophomore Dylan McCaffrey and redshirt freshman Joe Milton.
