Two former Ohio State football players have been indicted on two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping.
Ron O’Brien, the district attorney of Franklin County, Ohio, announced Friday that a grand jury determined there was enough evidence for Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint, both 21, to be tried on the charges.
He said Riep and Wint could face maximum consecutive terms of 33 years in prison and registration as sex offenders if convicted.
The two are set to be arraigned on March 6 in Columbus.
The indictment states that on Feb. 4, the alleged victim went to the off-campus apartment the men shared to watch a movie. Later, according to the indictment, she was restrained by the men and forced to engage in non-consensual vaginal and oral sex.
Riep and Wint were arrested one week after the alleged crime. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day moved swiftly to dismiss them from the program the following day.
“I am not making any statement on the criminal charges, but it is clear they did not live up to our standards and my expectations. The athletics department will make sure they both continue to have access to the health and well-being resources available to students and student-athletes. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, I will not be commenting further,” Day said on Feb. 12.
The players, both defensive backs, had one year of eligibility remaining with the Buckeyes.
