Two Ohio State defensive backs were dismissed from the team Wednesday after being arrested on charges of rape and kidnapping late Tuesday.
Cornerback Amir Riep and safety Jahsen Wint, both 21 with one year of eligibility remaining, were booked into Franklin County Jail awaiting arraignment.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day, in announcing the players’ dismissal in a statement, added: “I am not making any statement on the criminal charges, but it is clear they did not live up to our standards and my expectations. The athletics department will make sure they both continue to have access to the health and well-being resources available to students and student-athletes. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, I will not be commenting further.”
The alleged incident occurred last week at the off-campus apartment the players share.
According to the police affidavit, a woman alleged she was at the apartment and began having consensual sex with Riep, but told Riep she did not want to continue. Then Wint allegedly entered the room and asked to join them before grabbing the woman by the throat and assaulting her.
The players allegedly demanded the woman attest that the sex had been consensual on a video recording and take a shower before Riep drove her home.
