Penn State suspended sophomore cornerback Donovan Johnson for Saturday’s season opener at home against Idaho.

Johnson’s name was not listed on the depth chart released Tuesday. On Wednesday, head coach James Franklin said Johnson had been suspended for unspecified violations of team rules.

A four-star signee in the 2017 recruiting class, Johnson appeared in 12 games last season for the Nittany Lions and registered 12 tackles.

Franklin did not say how long the suspension would last.

No. 15 Penn State is coming off a 9-4 season, capped by a 27-24 loss to Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl.
