Wisconsin cornerback Rachad Wildgoose is opting out of the rest of the season to chase his NFL dreams.
“I may be taking the next step in my journey but I will always love the University of Wisconsin. A piece of my heart will always remain in Madison,” he posted Friday on Twitter. “Having said that, I have decided to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft. I love you all and On Wisconsin!”
A 5-foot-11, 197-pound junior from Miami, Wildgoose registered six tackles and two tackles for loss in two starts this season for the Badgers. He left last Saturday’s loss at Northwestern with a shoulder injury.
His three-year career totals at Wisconsin included 57 tackles, five tackles for loss, 15 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one interception in 25 games.
This Saturday’s Big Ten game between No. 16 Wisconsin (2-1) and Minnesota (2-3) was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, snapping the rivalry’s uninterrupted 113-year streak.
Wildgoose’s primary assignment in that game would have been Golden Gophers star receiver Rashod Bateman, who announced earlier this week that he is also leaving college to prepare for the 2021 draft.
