Junior Jack Coan will replace the departed Alex Hornibrook at starting quarterback for Wisconsin.

The Badgers’ depth chart, released Sunday, listed Coan ahead of hotly recruited freshman Graham Mertz and redshirt freshman Chase Wolf.

Hornibrook, a graduate transfer, now is at Florida State.

Coan, from Sayville, N.Y., has appeared in 11 games over two seasons with the Badgers. In 2018, he played in five games, starting four, and completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 515 yards and five touchdowns. He led Wisconsin to a win over Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Mertz was a four-start recruit in the Class of 2019, ranked on the 247Sports composite as the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the nation. A number of schools, including Clemson, Ohio State and Alabama, pursued him.
