Former Florida State coach Willie Taggart is being hired to lead the Florida Atlantic program, multiple outlets reported on Wednesday.

Taggart is being tabbed as coach to replace Lane Kiffin, who departed Saturday to take the Mississippi job.

Taggart was fired last month by Florida State after just 21 games over two seasons. He went 9-12 and was let go with four-plus seasons remaining on a six-year contract.

This will be fifth FBS coaching stint for the 43-year-old Taggart. He also has coached Western Kentucky (2010-12), South Florida (2013-16) and Oregon (2017) and has a 56-62 overall record in 10 seasons.

His record was below .500 at Western Kentucky (16-20) and South Florida (24-25) and he went 7-5 in his only season at Oregon.
