Middle Tennessee running back Benny Cunningham, who has rushed for more than 200 yards in two of the past three games, may miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, the Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro, Tenn., reported.

Cunningham injured his knee in Saturday’s 34-30 victory over Florida International.
He had 36 carries for 230 yards and two touchdowns in that game. Two weeks before that he had 217 yards in a victory over Georgia Tech.

For the season, Cunningham is averaging 120 yards per game, which ranks 13th in the nation.

An MRI performed Monday will indicate whether Cunningham will miss the rest of the season.

“Either it’s season-ending or, to me, even if it’s not surgical and he’s out three or four weeks before trying to work his way back, with six games left, it’s almost like season-ending,” Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill told the Daily News Journal.
