Clemson is the clear No. 1 in the first Associated Press Top 25 college football poll of the 2020 regular season released on Sunday.
The rest of the deck was shuffled, with nine teams from the preseason poll leaving the rankings because their conferences aren’t playing and 10 new schools joining the party.
Clemson (1-0) received 60 of 61 first-place votes after opening with a 37-13 victory at Wake Forest on Saturday.
Alabama (0-0) is No. 2, followed by Oklahoma (1-0), Georgia (0-0) and Florida (0-0).
No. 6 LSU (0-0), the defending national champion, received the other first-place vote. Notre Dame (1-0), Auburn (0-0), Texas (1-0) and Texas A&M (0-0) round out the top 10.
No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette (1-0) is in the Top 25 for the first time since 1943 following Saturday’s 31-14 upset at Iowa State. The Cyclones, who were ranked 23rd, dropped out of the poll.
Also joining the poll are No. 16 Memphis (1-0), No. 17 Miami (1-0), No. 18 Louisville (1-0), No. 20 Virginia Tech (0-0), No. 21 BYU (1-0), No. 22 Army (2-0), No. 23 Kentucky (0-0), No. 24 Appalachian State (1-0) and No. 25 Pittsburgh (1-0).
Six schools from the Big Ten (Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Iowa) and three from the Pac-12 (Oregon, Southern California and Utah) dropped out because their leagues postponed fall sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
