Former Nebraska wide receiver JD Spielman is reportedly transferring to TCU for his final season of eligibility.
The news was first reported Saturday night by 247Sports, whose sources said Spielman has been granted a waiver by the NCAA to play immediately in 2020.
Spielman entered the transfer portal last month. He had been away from the Cornhuskers since before spring practice due to a “personal health matter,” Nebraska coach Scott Frost said in March.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Spielman caught 170 passes for 2,546 yards and 15 touchdowns in 33 games (26 starts) over three seasons with the Cornhuskers.
In 2019, he started all 12 games and led the team in receptions (49), receiving yards (898), receiving touchdowns (five) and all-purpose yards (1,038). His 898 receiving yards ranked sixth on the school’s all-time single-season list and he became the first Nebraska player with three 800-yard receiving seasons.
Spielman’s father, Rick, is the general manager of the Minnesota Vikings.
