It appears Saturday’s games involving Nebraska and Iowa State that were postponed because of lightning storms will not be rescheduled.

Nebraska was slated to play visiting Akron and Iowa State was scheduled to host South Dakota State. The schools waited to call their games after a nearly three-hour delay.

In a letter to Iowa State fans, Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard stated that “it does not appear we will be able to reschedule our game with South Dakota State. The team’s bye weeks are on different weeks so we cannot reschedule the game during the regular season. The only week that could work is Dec. 1. Needless to say, both of our teams hope to be playing that weekend (the Big 12 title game for Iowa State and FCS playoffs for South Dakota State).”

Pollard went on to suggest Iowa State is looking to see if a possible opponent can be scheduled at the last minute for a makeup game. That is dependent on finding an opponent in the same position with a schedule that works without having to make any additional changes.

Nebraska sent out a statement reading that its game with Akron “has been cancelled.”

“The Huskers will open the 2018 season against Colorado next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT,” the statement reads. “Any adjustments to the 2018 football schedule will be announced at a later date. Ticket holders are encouraged to hold on to their tickets from tonight’s game.”
