Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book will not play in Saturday’s game against Florida State because of a rib injury, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.

According to IrishSportsDaily.com, Book suffered multiple injuries to his midsection in Saturday’s game at Northwestern, and those injuries will prevent him from playing on Saturday.

He finished the game and has played a major role in Notre Dame’s 9-0 record that has elevated the Irish to the No. 3 spot in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings.

Presumably Brandon Wimbush, who was Notre Dame’s starting quarterback when the season began, will start against the Seminoles, who are 4-5 overall and 2-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Book took over as the starting quarterback against Wake Forest on Sept. 22. He replaced Wimbush, who started the first three games.

ESPN.com reported that Book is expected to be available for Notre Dame’s game against No. 13 Syracuse on Nov. 17.

In Saturday’s 31-21 victory over Northwestern, Book completed 22 of 34 passes for 343 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran 11 times for 56 yards and a score.

For the season, Book has completed 74.5 percent of his passes, with 15 touchdown passes and four interceptions. He has run for 287 yards and four touchdowns.
