Boise State is set to hire Arkansas State’s Bryan Harsin as its head coach, according to reports Wednesday.

Harsin is leaving Arkansas State after one season to return to Boise, where he was an assistant coach from 2002 to 2010 and a former quarterback for the Broncos rom 1995 to 1999.

The 37-year-old Harsin will replace Chris Peterson, who left Boise last Friday to accept the head coaching job at Washington after Steve Sarkisian departed for USC.

In his one season at Arkansas State, Harsin posted a 7-5 record. The Red Wolves have one game left this season in the GoDaddy Bowl against Ball State on Jan. 5.

Before taking over at Arkansas State after Gus Malzahn went to Auburn, Harsin served as offensive coordinator at Texas for two seasons.

Harsin will have big shoes to fill at Boise State. Petersen compiled a 92-12 record in eight seasons with the Broncos. He led Boise to two Fiesta Bowl titles, five conference championships and a No. 2 ranking in the AP Top 25 in 2010.

Arkansas State’s last three coaches now have left after one season for higher-profile jobs — Harsin, Malzahn and Hugh Freeze to Mississippi.
