Former Clemson running back Tavien Feaster will play his final season at in-state rival South Carolina.
Feaster, a grad transfer set to finish his degree at Clemson next week, made the announcement Monday on Instagram, posting a picture of himself wearing a South Carolina jersey and sitting at a locker with his name on it.
“Obviously South Carolina needed a little bit of a boost at running back,” Feaster’s father, Terrance Feaster, told The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C. “It’s close to home. He likes it down there.”
Feaster, from Spartanburg, S.C., rushed for 1,330 yards and 15 touchdowns in three seasons with Clemson, part of national championship teams in 2016 and 2018. He made 11 career starts but was never the feature back, falling further behind last season as sophomore Travis Etienne had an All-American season.
Feaster rushed for 669 yards on 107 carries in 2017, with his numbers dropping to 440 yards and 78 carries last season as a time-share backup. He caught 23 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown at Clemson.
At South Carolina, he’ll try to spark a running game that ranked 91st nationally at 152.8 yards per game. Feaster will compete with three other seniors — Rico Dowdle, A.J. Turner and Mon Denson.
Clemson plays at South Carolina on Nov. 30.
