PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington quarterback Jake Browning passed for 292 yards and three touchdowns and halfback Lavon Coleman rushed for two scores to lead the No. 5 Huskies into the Pac-12 championship game with a victory over 23rd-ranked Washington State in the 109th Apple Cup on Friday afternoon at Martin Stadium.

Wide receiver Dante Pettis caught two touchdown passes and John Ross had another to help the Huskies (11-1, 8-1) built a 28-3 first-quarter lead. They were never threatened thereafter, improving their case for one of four berths in the College Football Playoff.

The Huskies will play No. 9 Colorado or No. 12 USC in the Pac-12 championship game Dec. 2 in Santa Clara, Calif. Colorado will win the Pac-12 South if it beats No. 22 Utah in Boulder, Colo., on Saturday. USC wins a tiebreaker with Colorado if the Buffaloes lose.

Quarterback Luke Falk passed for 269 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions for the Cougars (8-4, 7-2), who suffered their second straight loss after having an eight-game winning streak broken at Colorado last Saturday. Cougars wide receiver Gabe Marks caught 11 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown.

Iowa 40, No. 16 Nebraska 10

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa’s victory guarantees that No. 6 Wisconsin will represent the Big Ten West Division in Indianapolis for next week’s conference championship game.

Quarterback C.J. Beathard passed for 144 yards and three touchdowns and LeShun Daniels Jr. rushed for 158 yards for Iowa (8-4, 6-3).

Quarterback Tommy Armstrong was just 13 of 35 for 125 yards and one score for Nebraska (9-3, 6-3).

Air Force 27, No. 19 Boise State 20

Air Force managed a huge goal line stand in the final minutes to upset No. 19 Boise State 27-20 on the Falcons’ home field.

The loss ended any chance for the Broncos (10-2) to earn a spot in the Mountain West Championship Game. Because of this result, Wyoming will now play San Diego State for the conference title.

Air Force (9-3) forced a fumble by Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien on a fourth-and-1 from the 1-yard line with 4:29 left in the game. The Falcons were then able to run out the clock following a key first-down run by D.J. Johnson, who finished with 73 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown

Rypien completed 9 of 26 passes for 316 yards and a touchdown.

Memphis 48, No. 20 Houston 44

Memphis quarterback Riley Ferguson completed 30 of 45 passes for 409 yards and four touchdowns, including a go-ahead strike to wide receiver Anthony Miller on the Tigers’ final drive in the game in Memphis, Tenn.

Memphis (8-4, 5-3 American) scored 30-plus points for the fifth straight game, and the loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Houston (9-3, 5-3).

Houston quarterback Greg Ward Jr. completed 47 of 67 for a career-high 487 yards and four touchdowns in a losing effort. Wide receiver Linell Bonner also set career highs with 17 receptions for 235 yards and one touchdown.

No. 21 Western Michigan 55, Toledo 35

Western Michigan advanced to the Mid-American Conference championship game Dec. 2 at Ford Field in Detroit with the win in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Combined with Boise State’s 27-20 loss on Friday to the Air Force, Western Michigan (12-0, 8-0 Mid-American) is now in the driver’s seat to play in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 2 as the highest-ranked Group of Five conference champion.

Broncos quarterback Zach Terrel completed 19 of 25 passes for 196 yards and three scores, giving him 43 passing touchdowns for the season. Jamauri Bogan carried the ball 31 times for 198 yards and one score for Western Kentucky.

Kareem Hunt rushed for 200 yards and one score for Toledo (9-3, 6-2).

On the game’s first play from scrimmage, Asantay Brown intercepted a pass and ran it back 21 yards to put the Broncos up 7-0 just 12 seconds into the game.
