Josh Adkins – Noteworthy
Josh Adkins was good as a redshirt freshman quarterback for the New Mexico State football team. Aggies head coach Doug Martin wants more in Year 2. Martin pointed to the developement of Utah State quarterback Jordan Love. The Aggies beat Love’s Aggies in the 2017 Arizona Bowl, but the Aggies couldn’t contain Love during Utah State’s 60-13 victory over NM State in Utah in 2018. “(Adkins) has been a great leader ever since he’s been here,” Martin said. “The challenge for him, and I told him this, was that (Love) when we played against him in the bowl game, he was a freshman and he was a good player. We played him again last year and he was an unbelievably good player. That progress that he made from year 1 to Year 2 was impressive and that’s what Josh needs to do.” Adkins passed for 2,563 yards with 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 10 games last season, completing 56 percent of his passes. “I understand that everyone is looking at me now and I have to have more control in what I’m doing and that’s exciting,” Adkins said. “We have come out with the receivers three or four times a week getting extra work and that will carry into practice and the games this fall. The biggest thing is just details and finding that extra work.” – Las Cruces Sun News
