Notre Dame football players will return to campus next week and move into an on-campus hotel, where they will remain the entire summer, multiple media outlets reported Thursday night.

All 90 players will be quarantined for a week at The Morris Inn ahead of voluntary workouts that begin June 22, according to the report. They will be housed there until they move into their residences for the fall semester.

The workouts will be in groups with no more than 10 players.

“With as much as we know about this virus and the transmission of this virus, I think we’ve come up with a really good plan,” team physician Matt Leiszler said. “That being said, there’s an element of this that’s kind of like building an airplane as you fly it, in that we’re learning so much more really every week. …

“I think everyone needs to be aware that what are best practices right now may be different come August or September, October. And we need to be willing to adapt, and that’s going to be the reality.”

The players will take their meals at the hotel, too, in an effort to minimize exposure as much as possible.

“It’s not realistic to say they are not going to leave their hotel room,” associate athletic director Ron Powlus said, according to ESPN. “We’re going to create some opportunities for them, give some thought to different entertainment opportunities for them, but still keep them to limited numbers and limited opportunity for exposure.”

Each player reportedly will get a nasal swab and an antibody test for COVID-19 the week of June 15-19. The players will have their temperatures taken daily and will fill out a symptom survey before entering any athletic facility.
