Notre Dame extended coach Brian Kelly’s contract through the 2024 season on Saturday. Terms were not disclosed.

The school announced the extension during the first quarter of the 10th-ranked Fighting Irish’s season-opening 27-13 victory against Duke in South Bend, Ind.

“We are pleased to be able to have Brian lead our football program for the foreseeable future,” said athletic director Jack Swarbrick in a statement. “These terms were agreed upon in December and we planned the subsequent announcement for the Blue-Gold game in April. When the University transitioned to remote learning in March, we decided to wait to make this announcement until we were able to return our attention to football being back in action and I am happy to share this great news today.”

Kelly, 58, is in his 11th season at Notre Dame. He improved his record with the Fighting Irish to 93-37 on Saturday, including an 11-2 mark in 2019.

Before joining Notre Dame in December 2009, Kelly was the head coach Cincinnati (2007-09) and Central Michigan (2004-06).
