The Air Force game at Wyoming, scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled, the program and the Mountain West announced Sunday.
The game will be declared a “no contest,” according to Mountain West COVID-19 protocols.
The game was called off by Air Force because of an upward trend of COVID-19 cases at the Air Force Academy and within the football program.
It is the second consecutive game that Air Force has postponed and/or canceled. The program’s game at Army on Nov. 7 was postponed last week. There have been discussions between the two programs to possibly play that game at a later date.
The Falcons (1-2, 0-2 MW) last played on Oct. 31 in a 49-30 loss to visiting Boise State at Falcon Stadium.
Air Force is scheduled to host New Mexico on Nov. 20.
Wyoming (1-2, 1-2) is scheduled to host Utah State on Nov. 19.
“We are disappointed to lose a second consecutive game, but the health and safety of our cadets, staff and community is our No. 1 priority at the Academy,” Air Force athletics director Nathan Pine said in a released statement.
“We have seen continued increase in our COVID numbers within the football program and have again eclipsed our threshold for safe competition,” he continued. “We will pause football practices for now.”
