Boise State football coach Bryan Harsin is among the university employees being furloughed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Men’s basketball coach Leon Rice will also be part of the furloughs after university president Marlene Tromp informed staffers in a Monday night email that was obtained by the Idaho Statesman on Tuesday.

The email indicated that all employees making more than $40,000 a year would be required to take furloughs due to the university experiencing close to $10 million in losses.

“I hope our swift action now can help us avoid what could be more grave action later and provide for the long-term well-being of both our community and the institution,” Tromp wrote in the email.

Tromp’s email said employees making more than $150,000 are required to take 10-day furloughs between May 3 and July 31.

Harsin, who makes a reported $1.65 million in base salary, stands to lose approximately $63,000 over 10 days without pay.

Rice, who reportedly makes roughly $705,000, would lose more than $27,000 over 10 days.

Women’s basketball coach Gordy Presnell makes approximately $242,000 and would sacrifice around $9,300 over 10 days.

The email reportedly indicated that employees making between $100,000 to $149,999 would be required to take seven days of furlough. Those making between $75,000 and $99,999 would take five furlough days and employees making between $40,000 and $74,999 would take four.

Boise State also is asking employees and faculty to take voluntary furloughs. The school said it may request more mandatory furloughs in the future.
