*Preston Williams – Noteworthy
Preston Williams finally got his chance to work out for NFL scouts, and the results of the physical tests weren’t nearly as eye-popping as the highlight reel of the receiver’s one season with CSU’s football program. Williams, who has been projected as anywhere from a second- to sixth- or seventh-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft, ran the 40-yard dash in the 4.55-second range, leaped 9 feet, 8 inches in the standing broad jump and had a vertical leap of 31 ½ inches Wednesday at Colorado State University’s pro day.
His agent, Michael Swenson, said those were the kind of numbers the trainers Williams has been working with in Southern California were expecting the receiver to put up. But they were below the average numbers put up by the 48 receivers, including CSU teammate Bisi Johnson, who participated in the NFL Scouting Combine over the weekend in Indianapolis. Williams, 6-foot-4 and 211 pounds, was allowed to attend the combine to meet with NFL teams but wasn’t permitted to perform the on-field tests because of a September 2017 arrest in Fort Collins on misdemeanor charges of harassment and assault that included a domestic violence enhancement. Williams ultimately pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor harassment charge, for which he received a deferred sentence. – The Coloradoan
Josh Watson – Noteworthy
There were 12 former Rams on hand to work out, and while Williams and Johnson will both likely live out a dream by hearing their name called out at the draft, the others are hoping for any shot they can get. Linebacker Josh Watson made the most of his day with impressive numbers in the testing, with a few scouts saying he locked himself up at least a free-agent tryout somewhere. For Watson, that encouragement is all he needs to keep pressing forward. “I felt like I could have done better in some aspects; you never have a perfect day,” Watson said. “Going out there and putting up good numbers is what you want to leave at the end of the day. “I wanted to show some explosiveness and good reaction at my position. All the hard work you put into the offseason leading up to this time, this moment, all of it goes unnoticed. Olabisi Johnson – Noteworthy
Wednesday was the day to shine for 12 former Rams seeking to make a positive impression on NFL personnel ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, April 25-27. Representatives from all 32 NFL teams were on the Colorado State campus Wednesday morning for the CSU Football program’s annual Pro Day. The morning began at 7 a.m. with meetings, followed by measurements and bench press in the Canvas Stadium weight room beginning at 7:45. The scene shifted to the Indoor Practice Facility at 8:30 a.m. for on-field testing, which included vertical jump, broad jump, 40-yard dash, three-cone drill and other sprint and agility work. The final portion featured quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuel throwing various routes to wide receivers Olabisi Johson and Preston Williams, and running back Izzy Matthews, followed by linebackers Tre Thomas and Josh Watson receiving some individual workouts from several teams. – Colorado State Football
