New Mexico coach Bob Davie is recovering from what the school initially called “a serious medical incident.”

Davie, 64, was taken by ambulance to the hospital after the Lobos’ season-opening win against San Houston State. Reports circulated that he was suffering from a heart issue, but his condition has not been disclosed.

The Davie family issued a statement late Saturday night.

“We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Coach Davie is doing well and recovering, he is surrounded by family and your continued thoughts, prayers and privacy are greatly appreciated during this time.”

Davie is in his eighth season in New Mexico, where he’s put together a 34-54 record with two bowl appearances. He previously was the head coach at Notre Dame, where his teams went 35-25 from 1997 to 2001.
