Troy Babbitt-US PRESSWIRE

COACH: Mike MacIntyre — At SJSU and overall: 6-19, 2 years

OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR: Brian Lindgren

DEFENSIVE COORDINATORS: Kent Baer

LAST LEAGUE TITLE: 1991, Big West co-champs

LAST BOWL: 2006, New Mexico

RETURNING STARTERS: 12; 6 offense, 5 defense, punter

PLAYERS TO WATCH: RB De’Leon Eskridge, WR Jabari Carr, OT David Quessenberry, TE Ryan Otten, DT Travis Raciti, DE Travis Johnson, LB Keith Smith

PRIMARY STRENGTHS: The Spartans have one of the most talent groups of receivers in the WAC (Carr, Noel Grigsby and Chandler Jones) and a big-play tight end. Quessenberry is a first-rate left tackle for the quarterback’s blind side. The defensive line is stout and the linebacking unit is deep at every position.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS: Quarterback, quarterback and, um, quarterback: There are significant questions about every candidate. The offensive line features three new starters; the retooled secondary must replace all-league safety Duke Ihenacho and the kicking game needs consistency.
