Christian McCaffrey could be in line for even more work Friday night against Kansas State.

Backup running back Bryce Love is unavailable for the season opener due to an undisclosed injury, coach David Shaw said.

Love had 476 total yards and three toucchdowns as a true freshman last season. He’ll be replaced in the rotation Friday by bruising redshirt freshman Cameron Scarlett.

Love is expected to be ready Sept. 17 for Stanford’s game at Southern Cal following a bye next week.

McCaffrey, a Heisman Trophy finalist last season, had 382 total touches last season and racked up 2,674 yards from scrimmage. He had 20-plus total touches in every game in 2015 except the season opener against Northwestern (17).
