Washington State starting quarterback Jayden de Laura will miss Saturday’s game at Stanford because of a positive COVID-19 test, multiple outlets reported Friday.

The Spokesman-Reivew of Spokane, Wash., said it was unknown whether any other players tested positive or were quarantined because of contact tracing.

Redshirt freshman Gunner Cruz is expected to start in place of de Laura and be backed up by redshirt sophomore Cammon Cooper.

Cruz has yet to appear in a college football game.

De Laura, a freshman from Honolulu, has completed 43 of 72 pass attempts for 548 yards with four touchdowns and an interception in the Cougars’ first two games. He’s run for 54 yards and another touchdown.

Washington State (1-1) and Stanford (0-2) are scheduled to kick off Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET.
