The University of Washington is expected to name Chris Petersen as its new head coach on Friday, according to ESPN.
Petersen is reportedly leaving Boise State to become one of the highest paid coaches in the Pac-12.
Petersen met with Washington athletic director Scott Woodward and senior associate athletic director Jennifer Cohen in Boise on Thursday night and signed an agreement, according to the report.
Petersen has turned down other jobs in the past but a source told ESPN that the timing and fit were right for him to take it. Petersen was previously linked to other Pac-12 jobs, including USC, UCLA and Stanford, but the Huskies were the best match for him.
Washington was looking to replace Steve Sarkisian, who took the USC head coaching job. Petersen pursued the USC job in 2009 that ultimately went to Sarkisian. He also interviewed with the Trojans recently but Sarkisian left Washington to take the job.
Petersen went 92-12 at Boise State over eight seasons, including five conference championships and two BCS games. The Broncos are 8-4 this season, including a loss to Washington.
Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier was also considered for the Washington job. He was the Huskies’ offensive coordinator under Sarkisian from 2009-11.
Missouri coach Gary Pinkel withdrew his name from consideration Thursday night.
