Washington quarterback Cyler Miles has been suspended for the team’s season opener against Hawaii, the school announced Thursday.
Miles’ suspension stems from his role in a fight after the Super Bowl that also led to a suspension that kept him out for all of spring practice. He was reinstated to the team on May 14.
Former Washington receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault and one count of malicious mischief as a result of the incident. He has since left the team. Miles was never charged.
Miles is expected to replace Keith Price as the Huskies’ starting quarterback, but coach Chris Petersen has not officially named a starter.
Miles, a redshirt sophomore from Centennial, Colo., started one game for the injured Price in 2013, helping the Huskies to a 69-27 victory at Oregon State. He appeared in eight games, completing 37 of 61 passes for 418 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for 200 yards on 23 carries.
With Miles suspended, sophomore Jeff Lindquist or redshirt freshman Troy Williams will likely start the opener against Hawaii on Aug. 30.
