Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is recovering after undergoing a heart procedure last week, the school announced Tuesday.

In a statement, the school said an annual physical exam uncovered a “congenital cardiovascular anomaly” that required Sarkisian to have the procedure July 2 in Birmingham.

“He is back home in Tuscaloosa and is expected to make a full recovery,” the statement read.

Sarkisian, 46, will be entering his second season as OC with the Crimson Tide after two years as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. Sarkisian spent a year as an analyst with Alabama in 2016.

Sarkisian was the head coach at Washington for five years and at USC for a year and a half before being fired in 2015. Sarkisian compiled a 34-29 record and earned four bowl appearances with the Huskies, though he resigned before the final one. He was 12-6 and reached one bowl game with the Trojans.

Sarkisian interviewed for Colorado’s head coaching position earlier this year before pulling his name from consideration. Colorado hired Karl Dorrell in February.
