Isaiah Buggs – Noteworthy
Isaiah Buggs hears you, haters. The former Alabama defensive lineman doesn’t mind it, really. And it isn’t impacting his confidence in this long NFL draft process. A day before hitting the field at the Combine in Indianapolis, Buggs took a few moments to address any critics. “I’ve been doubted some,” Buggs said. “I feel underrated, but I don’t have control over that. I know I am a great player, my film shows it. I am an all-around player, and can play anywhere up front and get the job done. I just have to trust in God and believe everything is going to work out. … It’s just motivation. When somebody says you can’t do it, it’s like a switch goes on to let them know, I can do it.”
After two seasons at Alabama, Buggs feels good about the résumé he has to offer the 32 pro teams in Indianapolis. After transferring from junior college, the Louisiana product was a starter along a defensive front that included 2018 first-rounder Da’Ron Payne and likely 2019 top-5 pick Quinnen Williams. Coming to Tuscaloosa, Buggs’ top priority was proving versatility. “I was always taught not to be a one-trick pony,” Buggs said. “Coming out of junior college, high school, I was never a one-trick pony.” – AL.com
Tyrell Shavers – Noteworthy
Tyrell Shavers is back to playing just football for Alabama. After taking a shot at baseball this spring, the redshirt sophomore wide receiver is back to focusing on strictly football. “Tyrell, we worked for a month or so, and with the Fourth Quarter Program and spring football coming up in the short time, he’s just really going to attack that,” Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon said, per BamaOnline. “We’ll kind of get through spring football and regroup. But right now, he’s full-time football.” The 6-foot-6, 205-pound Shavers is entering the spring as one of the Crimson Tide’s top backups at wide receiver after serving as a backup last season. “He’s a big receiver, probably the biggest receiver we have,” wide receiver DeVonta Smith said last year. “He’s big, but he can move just like us. He’s not a big, sluggish receiver. He’s a big receiver who can move around.” – Birmingham News
Ale Kaho – Noteworthy
Ale Kaho appears to be ready to return to football in the near future. Alabama’s sophomore linebacker, the one who missed the Crimson Tide’s opening practice of the spring while dealing with “some issues,” posted on Instagram Monday night that he’ll be back soon. “They lied to you… 10 gon be back real soon… stronger than ever!” Kaho said in the post. That’s good news for Alabama. Nick Saban had said on Friday of Kaho, “I don’t know if at some point in time he’ll be ready to come back and play football or not.” A former four-star recruit, Kaho had a team-high seven tackles on the kickoff coverage team for the Tide last season and will be in the mix for the starting inside linebacker job next to Dylan Moses. – Birmingham News
