Florida cornerback Marco Wilson announced Monday he will return for his redshirt junior season.

“Our team has a lot of goals that we are still working to accomplish and I would love to be a part of that experience,” he wrote on Twitter. “I cannot wait to get back to work with my brothers for this upcoming season.”

Wilson intercepted three passes and made 36 tackles this year for the 11-2 Gators, who capped their season with a 36-28 victory over Virginia in the Orange Bowl. Wilson showed versatility by also starting at the “star” nickel position late in the season.

He figures to lead the secondary in 2020 after junior cornerback CJ Henderson announced he would enter the NFL Draft as a potential first-round selection.

Florida ranked in the national top 10 in scoring defense (15.5 points allowed per game) and total defense (304.8 yards per game) this season.

Wilson was an immediate starter at cornerback in his true freshman season in 2017, when he made 34 tackles and broke up a team-best 10 passes. He was able to redshirt in 2018 after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee early in the second game of the season.
