Kentucky freshman quarterback Nik Scalzo will undergo surgery on his right knee after being injured in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Wildcats coach Mark Stoops announced Tuesday that Scalzo will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL next week. He said Scalzo was hurt while trying to plant and make a cut during the scrimmage.

The injury represents a blow for Scalzo, who underwent ACL surgery on the same knee last fall after being injured in November.

“Disappointed for him,” Stoops told reporters. “He’s worked extremely hard to come back as fast as he did from the first surgery, to be cleared, to get out here and participate. He was doing a heck of a job.”

Scalzo wasn’t in the mix to play this season, but he is a highly regarded player from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He also is one of three players featured in the Netflix documentary series “QB1: Beyond the Lights,” which chronicles the trio’s senior seasons in high school.
