The LSU Tigers are hiring former NFL coordinator and head coach Scott Linehan to replace passing game coordinator Joe Brady, multiple outlets reported Monday.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman was the first to break the news.

Brady spent one season at LSU, helping coordinator Steve Ensminger install and teach a spread offense that launched quarterback Joe Burrow to the Heisman Trophy and the Tigers to a 15-0 record and the national championship.

Brady, who won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant, left after the title-game win over Clemson to be the offensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers. LSU improved from 54th nationally to first in total offense in his one season in Baton Rouge.

Linehan, 56, was out of football last season after serving five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys — the first as passing game coordinator and the last four as offensive coordinator. He also was the coordinator for the Detroit Lions (2009-2013), the Miami Dolphins (2005) and Minnesota Vikings (2002-2004).

Linehan went 11-25 as the head coach of the St. Louis Rams from 2006-08.

He coached in college from 1989 to 2001, including serving as offensive coordinator at Idaho, Washington and Louisville.

LSU is losing Burrow to the NFL, and nine underclassmen declared for the draft, including running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, wide receiver Justin Jefferson, tight end Thaddeus Moss and offensive linemen Saahdiq Charles and Lloyd Cushenberry III.
